Are you capitalizing on Friday’s Red Moon? You should…
Tomorrow’s moon is witnessing a total eclipse turning bright red for an hour and 45 minutes, according to NASA.
According to Forbes, this event is special for a number of reasons, most of which is that it will be the longest of the 21st century,
Dubai Time (DT), it will start at exactly 9:14 pm (DT), and end at 2:19 (DT) according to data by timeanddate.com.
Most of us will be watching the phenomenon in awe, but only a minority few in the UAE are thinking: “hmm, can I take advantage of this unique event??”
Yes, we are making this eclipse a big deal. The real question should be: Why isn’t your business preparing and banking on this for profit?
Merely pointing where the sight can best be seen is the least anyone can do to sell a few refreshments and a meal from some ordinary menu.
Already, Jumeirah Village Circle in Dubai, according to Time Magazine, promotes itself as the best place to be before, during and after the lunar eclipse takes place.
Hasan Ahmad Al Hariri, CEO of Dubai Astronomy Group, told a local daily that they were holding their own social event in Mushrif Park to witness the rare sight with friends and family.
“We have lots of activities happening on Friday. We will have a gathering of group members and the public and we will display the whole event in detail, explaining the geometry of the lunar eclipse and why this is one of the best of the century. We will have telescopes on site to view the event a little more close up and we will also be live streaming the eclipse to the York Astronomical Society in the UK too.”
Where’s the money?
In the US, you can bet someone would be thinking way ahead.
Last year’s solar eclipse saw the US use various tactics to get their brand out there.
Whether it was just marketing or product selling, they capitalized on it.
For example, the “Total Eclipse Cruise”, or “Oregon’s solar eclipse shoes”, and the not to forget Chiquita ’s “banana sun”.
They’re but a few items; examples of smart marketing.
How would we do it here?
For this event, how about some Red Moon tee-shirts that glow red in the dark: No brainer!
Strawberry red pies or donuts: Not that hard to make either.
Glowing Red phone covers: Another interesting idea that can go a long way.
Check out Mars
By the way, Mars the planet, not the chocolate, will be in full view as well on Friday.
The 2018 Mars appearance will be the second brightest in last 60,000 years after 2003. The next opportunity will come after 17 years, in 2035.
Will you be ready by then to turn a profit?
