From Frankfurt to the world: The Bentley Bentayga revealed
Following months of speculation, spy shots and an ad campaign featuring Jean Reno, Bentley Bentayga, the world’s fastest SUV, made an official debut in Frankfurt this week.
It is Bentley’s first SUV and the first of several super-luxury SUVs yet to be launched. Among the most anticipated super-luxury SUVs are vehicles by Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Maserati.
The car goes on sale early next year and will be the most expensive SUV in the market, with a price tag of approximately $230,000, for a start.
During the week leading up to the global launch, Bentley organised an international tour in several key cities, including Dubai, where brand representatives met with a selection of guests and members of the media, to brief them further about the car.
When in Dubai, Aficionado had a chat with the Stephen Reynolds, the regional director for Bentley in the Middle East, India, Africa and Asia Pacific region, who said that customers from the Middle East had already registered their interest in the car. He did not specify whether any official purchase requests have been made.
“We’ve had a lot of interest so far from prospects across the [Middle East] region… the first cars for customers will start to arrive in the early part of next year, by March or April,” he told Aficionado, on the sidelines of the Dubai event, held at the newly opened Bentley Café, Jumeirah Beach Residence.
Bentley did not yet confirm the number of orders made from potential clients in the region.
Overall, Bentley announced intentions to produce 3,000 Bentaygas during the first year of production.
“Our ambition would be to supply the core GCC market simultaneously, [as] they are all important,” Reynolds explained, when asked about which regional country is scheduled to receive the cars first. But, he noted, the brand’s “largest market in terms of volumes is the Emirates, closely followed by Saudi Arabia, [which is] growing all the time… And then you have Qatar and Kuwait.”
The Bentayga boasts an all-new twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 powertrain engine, with 600 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission, accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.1 seconds, with a top speed reaching 310 kmph.

The car was designed and engineered in Crewe in the United Kingdom and Bentley claims to have conducted heavy tests on different drive conditions of the Bentayga to make it fit for off-road driving – although it is highly unlikely that GCC customers would take their Bentaygas across the desert dunes.
