Vacheron Constantin brings permanent watchmaker to The Dubai Mall boutique

Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin officially opened the doors to its first regional flagship boutique at The Dubai Mall, featuring an in-house watchmaker.

The brand, one of the oldest watch manufacturers, is placing the watchmaker at the VIP room inside the boutique, allowing him to share his services and knowledge with clients.

While this is Vacheron Constantin’s first flagship store in the region, it is the brand’s second boutique in Dubai, the first being in Mall of the Emirates.

“Having a watchmaker in the boutique to assist any of our clients if they have technical questions, help those who are hesitating between two different models, or respond to inquiries too detailed for the sales staff would be an added value to our customers,” Yassin Tag, brand director for the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent at Vacheron Constantin, tells Aficionado.

The watchmaker will also be responsible for diagnosing each timepiece in need of repair or servicing. He can assess whether it can be worked on at the workshop – the brand’s watch repairing and servicing facility in Dubai, tucked away in the backside of the boutique – or if it needs to be shipped off to Geneva.

The brand claims to be the first watch manufacturer to have a permanent watchmaker at the boutique.

“Some [other brands] have a watchmaker in the boutique, but the bench is not in the boutique, but rather in the backside. Others have a bench, but a watchmaker only comes periodically, not all year long,” Tag explains.

As of now, the brand is still hosting different watchmakers until January, when it would complete the recruitment and training procedures for a permanent watchmaker.

Celebratory collection

While the brand is carrying its high-complication watches at the flagship store, it chose the Harmony collection – including three models of mid-level complications – to be associated with the new opening, which also falls around the same time as Vacheron Constantin’s 260th anniversary.

Harmony is a limited-edition watch collection, inspired by the brand’s first wristwatch chronographs introduced back in 1928. The first model enjoys a split-second function, with an ultra-thin, self-winding movement that is just 5.20 mm thick. Meanwhile, the second model boasts a tourbillon and a third is equipped with a pulsometric scale, similar to the original watch from the brand’s earlier days.
