Exclusive: “Golden age of space development in the UAE”

Space research in the UAE is in its early stages. This hasn’t stopped leaders at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) from aiming for the stars.

The UAE Astronaut Programme, which hopes to send the first Emirati-Arab to the International Space Station (ISS) this year, has already announced a launch date – Sept. 25 … and the repercussions are huge!

“The UAE is focused on developing its space industry – from a government perspective, from a policy perspective, from a projects perspective. We are living in this golden age of space development here in the UAE. The UAE has highlighted that space is very important and it’s going to be a contributor to driving the economy away from a hydrocarbon-based economy,” said Salem Al Marri, Head of the UAE Astronaut Programme, and Assistant Director-General for Scientific and Technical Affairs at the MBRSC.
