Etisalat had a field day

Etisalat was one of the stars of the show. From showcasing 5G technology to putting on display a mind-blowing flying car, the telecom provider’s offering was among the highlights of the event. But they weren’t content with just that.

They also announced a strategic partnership with  Sage Middle East. This partnership will offer Sage cloud accounting solutions to Small and Medium businesses (SMB), helping them with compliance of value-added taxes.

With the partnership, Etisalat’s SMB customers can now subscribe to Sage Business Cloud  Accounting,  which has been accredited by the UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) earlier in March. The flexible cloud solution helps businesses effectively manage their finances and cash flow by offering easy control of their business and data at any place and any time. It will also help them collaborate with colleagues and accountants to share the workload and automate processes wherever possible to improve efficiency and reduce admin tasks

Etisalat also made a major digital showcase in healthcare, bringing a wide array of smart solutions and concepts in the spotlight.

They also unveiled RoboPharmacy, a showcase of an unmanned, futuristic pharmacy system. It will be the first hands-on experience of Etisalat’s 5G technology believed to change people’s lives. It uses the 5G connection between the hospital, pharmacy, and capturing the data to provide convenience to the customer through virtual futuristic technologies.

Another revolutionary showcase is the CAE Vimedix ultrasound simulator, a high-fidelity simulator designed to make learning more engaging and intuitive. The unique system features a mannequin, several simulated ultrasound probes and an expanding library of cases.

SharpSurgeon, a VR spine surgery simulator, and training, brings a new perspective to classical medical education methods. This solution allows resident doctors to train while conducting complex surgeries. It provides a repeatable and standard tutoring environment and an add-on to any government current training curriculum while offering highly realistic hand-based interactions in an immersive training environment that reflects the modern operating room.

A glimpse of the future: Dubai goes smart

The Smart Dubai initiative showcased a range of its hi-tech, smart-city strategies and initiatives at its pavilion at this year’s event.

Smart Dubai collaborated with 59 Government and private-sector entities in Dubai, who joined the exhibition under the Smart Dubai umbrella and showcased smart government services that help spread happiness among Dubai’s citizens, residents, and visitors.

One of the most notable and ambitious of Smart Dubai’s projects is the Dubai Paperless Strategy, which seeks to fully eliminate all internal and external paper transactions within government departments by 2021.

The Dubai Blockchain Strategy, for its part, seeks to make the Dubai Government the 1st in the world capable of conducting 100% of all applicable transactions via an online encrypted database by 2020. It revolves around three main pillars: Increasing government efficiency; strengthening industrial activity (by spurring the growth of a Blockchain-based economy); and Securing Dubai’s global lead in the sector.

Another advanced technology that has spurred innovative services at Smart Dubai is artificial intelligence, where Smart Dubai has been active in implementing the UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (AI), launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai.

Smart Dubai debuted its AI-powered advisor Rashid, which uses AI to offer official and reliable answers to customers’ questions regarding the necessary procedures, documents, and requirements to conduct various transactions across all industry sectors – ranging from starting a business, visa processes, getting a driving license and many more. As of 2018, Rashid can answer questions via live chat on 26 topics related to Living in Dubai, with sub-categories covering over 3,000 intents.

Rashid has been embedded into the websites of Dubai’s Department of Economic Development, the Dubai Now platform, Dubai.ae website, and Dubai Now App, where it can be seamlessly accessed – in addition to having its own website.

The Dubai Startup Hub offered support for SMEs

Dubai Startup Hub, an initiative of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has leveraged GITEX Technology Week 2018 to showcase its wide variety of programmes, initiatives, and services catering to Dubai’s startup community in Dubai.
