The project first launched in 2013.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) notes that the images compiled from satellites such as the KhalifaSat have applications covering agriculture, water resources, urban planning, rural development, mineral prospecting, environment, forestry, ocean resources and disaster management.

The images KhalifaSat will send back to the ground station at MBRSC will meet the needs of government organisations and private sector enterprises locally and globally.

Earlier this month, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Chairman of the MBRSC, said, “We are proud of this turning point in our journey in space exploration. This stage proves our ability to independently manufacture satellites,  due to the efforts guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to achieve the UAE Centennial 2071, an ambitious outlook for the future.”
