Lebanon’s telecoms minister, Boutros Harb has announced the formation of a joint committee between the telecoms ministry and cellular operators to oversee the improvement of services, The Daily Star has reported. Last week, Harb threatened to scrap the contracts with Orascom, which operates Alfa, and Zein, which runs touch, by Monday if the services were not improved. The ministry is set to float an international tender to run the cellular networks once the contracts with touch and Alfa expired at the end of this month, said the minister. Zein and Orascom could take part in the bidding, Harb added.
