Ministry of State for Communications signs MoU with Batelco

The Ministry of State for Communications and Batelco, the Kingdom’s national telecommunications provider, have recently signed a MoU to explore the opportunity of building a National Broadband Network using Batelco’s network capabilities.

HE the Minister of State for Communications Sh. Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and Batelco Chairman Sh. Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa signed the MoU recently at Batelco headquarters in Hamala.

It was agreed in the MoU that the two parties will work jointly to explore the opportunity of utilizing Batelco’s current fibre network as a base for building the National Broadband Network, which is part of the National Telecommunications Plan adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers and then by the ministry. The plan includes the provision of Kingdom wide access to ultrafast broadband services using fibre.

HE Sh. Fawaz thanked Batelco for its constant readiness to put all its capabilities and professional expertise for the benefit of the country and the people.

“We will work with Batelco officials to explore how we can benefit from their experience in designing and implementing networks to build the National Broadband Network. This network will enhance Broadband services in the Kingdom significantly due to the advanced technologies to be used in implementing this major project,” explained Sh. Fawaz

Batelco Chairman Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa commented on the occassion “We are delighted to sign the MoU with the Ministry of State for Communications, which highlights the ongoing cooperation between the national telecommunications company, Batelco, and the state’s ministries in order to deliver state-of-the-art services to the Kingdom and the residents’.

“This deal will open up new horizons, when it comes to quality and speed of Broadband service in the Kingdom. Broadband is playing a pivotal role in many transactions finalized by organisations and individuals and is increasingly attracting the youths; in particular,” he added.
