Oman’s Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA) has said it will announce its decision regarding WhatsApp’s recently-announced plans to introduce free voice-calls, once more details are available, Times of Oman has reported. “It depends on the technology and how they are going to implement in Oman. We will take a call once they launch their services,” a senior TRA official told the daily. “We will look whether they will have an Oman partner and secondly, whether they will follow all the guidelines of TRA in Oman,” he said. According to Telecom Regulating Policy, providing any telecoms services should be licensed by the authority. “If they have to operate in Oman, they have to take a licence. Providing the service without licence is considered as violation of the law,” the official said.
