Telecom Egypt, the country’s only fixed-line operator, has announced it had reached a $12.5m settlement with a tanker in compensation for damage caused to two of its submarine cables last March, Ahram has reported. The amount covers the repair costs for the EIG and TE North cables, which the B-Elephant ship cut and damaged, causing internet connections to momentarily slow for broadband users across Egypt last spring.
