The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) hosted a workshop in its Dubai headquarters for students at the Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai.

The purpose of the event is to generate awareness of safe online practise and for the TRA to present a social media briefing to students focusing on the terms and conditions associated with the nation’s most popular social networks.

“The TRA is acutely aware of the rapid growth of social media in the UAE and in response, we have adopted a very clear strategy to generate public awareness of the security implications involved. Understanding the legal, cultural and social sensitivities involved when using these platforms are a must. This workshops highlighted exact that and we were delighted with how engaged all the students were,” said H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.

“This workshop also represents fantastic opportunity to students to appreciate the wealth of professional opportunities available to them in the field of ICT and the reasons to pursue them. Encouraging students to enter the ICT sector as this is one of the key contributors to the national economy,” he added.

The core focus on the workshop was the collective responsibility of operators, users, parents, and government bodies to promote the adoption of safe online practises. The workshop highlighted the TRA ongoing effort to encourage creativity within the ICT and explained its support for the upcoming WSIS Projects Prizes mobile application contents.
