APM Terminals Bahrain signs agreement with Port Workers Union

APM Terminals Bahrain a subsidiary of one of the world leaders in port infrastructure, and the operator of Khalifa Bin Salman Port, recently signed a three year Collective Bargaining Agreement valid from 2014 to 2017 which reinforces its commitment to employees.

As part of the agreement, medical insurance will be extended to members of families of employees’ from April 2014. The agreement was signed by Layla Al-Samerrai, Head of Human Resources at APM Terminals, Bahrain and a representative from the Port Workers Union. The highlight of the agreement is that employees will have their families included in the insurance coverage, giving the diverse workforce of APM Terminals the ability to meet their dependents’ health care needs.

Speaking at the signing, Mr. Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer of APM Terminals Bahrain said: “We will continue to invest in the well-being of our employees and their families to jointly ensure the smooth continuity of activities. Working together to improve performance quality and increase productivity – we will strengthen the future success of Bahrain’s ports to foster a safe and healthy work environment for our employees.”

Commenting on the signing of the agreement, Mr. Salman Al Saad, Deputy Chairman of the Port Workers Union, on behalf of all the union members and employees of APM Terminals Bahrain, said: “What has been achieved over the past few days at the start of the new year with the signing the collective agreement could not and would not have been achieved without the concerted efforts of both parties, the union and APM Terminals management, to achieve the common interest of social partnership on the ground. Through the collective agreement we have agreed on several items to benefit both parties: occupational health and safety, unemployment insurance, family health insurance, annual increase and finally, training, development and promotion.”
