RTA marks 10th anniversary by decorating strategic partners

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has felicitated a host of strategic partners comprising ministries, authorities, government departments and media organizations during an event marking its 10th anniversary in appreciation of their efforts, cooperation and effective contribution to RTA’s drive.

The event, which was held at Madinat Jumeirah, was attended by HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA; HE General Saif Abdullah Al Shaafar, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior; HE Abdullah Al Shaibani, Secretary General of the Executive Council; HE Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeinah, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police; HE Husain Nasir Lutah, Director General of Dubai Municipality; HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer; Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA); HE Abdul Rahman Al Saleh, Director General of the Department of Finance; HE Sultan Butti Bin Mejren, Director General of Dubai Land; HE Salem Ali Al Zaabi, Director General of the Federal Land and Marine Transport Authority; HE Khaled Mohammed Al Kamda, Director General of Community Development Authority; and a host of representatives of government departments and media organizations.

Starting his speech, Al Tayer offered thanks and gratitude to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for directing and lending unlimited support to RTA’s plans and projects. He also thanked HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, and HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, for their continuous follow-up of RTA’s business progress. The bright vision and the relentless support of the leadership to the RTA was the underlying factor of the mega achievements made by the RTA over the past ten years, noted Al Tayer. Such projects, he added, are highlighted by the accomplishing of the Dubai Metro and the Dubai Tram projects, a 53% increase in the overall length of roads constructed from 8,715 km in 2006 to 13,335 km in 2015, an increase in the number of lanes crossing Dubai Creek from 19 to 48 lanes, a drop in traffic accidents-related fatalities from 22 fatalities per 100 thousand of population in 2006 to 3.5 fatalities per 100 thousand of population in 2015, beefing up the bus fleet by more than 1500 buses featuring world-class specifications, and improving marine transit modes comprising the Ferry, Water Bus, and the Water Taxi, as well as increasing the number of traditional abras.

Al Tayer also expressed deep appreciation and thanks to RTA’s strategic partners for their long-standing efforts and cooperation. In particular he commended the cooperation with the Dubai Police which has overcome the key challenges facing the Emirate such as the low traffic safety level, and maintaining the security of transport especially in the Dubai Metro & Dubai Tram. He also praised the Dubai Municipality for accelerating the provision of lands needed for road and transportation infrastructure, and speeding up the issuance of permits for building RTA facilities. He renewed RTA’s determination to push this partnership to yet broader levels of coordination towards realizing the vision of our government.
RTA’s Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors hailed the prominent role of various written, audio and visual media organizations in briefing the public about projects, programs and initiatives undertaken by the RTA. “We are closely monitoring all news, views and comments published in the media about the RTA, especially feedbacks of community members, and are keen on studying & analyzing them in order to benefit from them as or mission is to deliver best-in-class services to the community.

During the event, a movie was shown recapping RTA’s achievements, along with a plaque depicting the daily mobility experience of people aboard public transit means. Al Tayer then decorated the strategic partners; namely ministries, authorities, government departments and media entities. The RTA also felicitated ten children whose wishes were granted by the RTA under an initiative branded (Your Wish is Our Command) in the context of RTA’s social responsibility aimed at bringing happiness to community members.
