UAE a Middle East leader with 47% growth in Q1 Chevrolet sales

The UAE auto sales industry is thriving, if the latest quarterly sales results from Chevrolet are anything to go by. Chevrolet posted a 47% increase in sales in the UAE for the first quarter compared to the same period last year.

This makes the UAE one of the highest growing markets in the Middle East for the quarter. It is also one of the highest performing markets on a monthly basis. March 2014 sales were up 40% on March last year.

The result is driven by strong growth across Chevrolet’s impressive range of cars, crossovers, pickups and SUVs. Most carlines experienced double or triple digit growth for the Q1 period.

The trucks that experienced the highest growth in the first quarter were the rugged and strong Silverado pickup; the spacious Tahoe and Suburban full size SUVs, the family-minded Traverse crossover; and the tough, midsize Trailblazer SUV.

The passenger cars that contributed the most to the Q1 growth included the fun to drive Spark city car, the iconic and sporty Camaro and the world’s bestselling Chevrolet, the Cruze. The flagship Impala has already been making its presence felt since its launch in June last year. In Q1 the Impala was responsible for nearly 20% of all Chevrolet passenger car sales.

It’s fantastic that so many customers are experiencing not only the extensive features that our vehicles offer, but also the Chevrolet Care servicing program and low cost of ownership that comes with having a Chevy.”

The performance from the UAE market has worked to bolster Chevrolet’s overall profitability in the region. For instance, the brand enjoyed 9% sales growth across the Middle East for March. This is because passenger car sales in the region were up 11% and truck sales grew a healthy 9% last month.

The UAE was one of the markets that posted the highest growth for Q1. Jordan, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain also produced particularly strong results.

The growth is likely to continue, with the recent launch of Chevrolet’s first small SUV, the Trax as well as a number of highly anticipated launches in the coming months. These include the all-new 2015 Tahoe and Suburban as well as the 2015 Silverado Heavy Duty model and a new convertible Corvette Stingray.
