Al Bustan Rotana has earned an ISO 14001 certification for environmental management systems. ISO 14001 is an international certification that provides a set of standardised requirements for environmental management systems. Companies gain the certification by implementing procedures and systems that follow and meet the standards, which are assessed by a third-party auditor. To receive the certification, the hotel implemented strategic practices such as saving on energy consumption such as electricity, LPG gas, and fuel, on the premises, monitoring and reducing mixed waste, monitoring and segregating recyclables, separating medical waste, e-waste, and hazardous waste. Al Bustan Rotana and Al Murooj Rotana cluster director of environment, health, and safety Muhammad Ihsanullah said: “The whole process included an extensive series of initiatives towards environmental sustainability in all facets of our hotel operations. It required a lot of internal coordination and my colleagues’ cooperation combined with their active involvement was truly invaluable.”
