Petra sees first rise in visitor numbers in three years

Official figures show the number of visitors to Jordan’s ancient city of Petra rose by 16% in April, compared with the same period in 2013, Jordan Times has reported. A total of 92,802 tourists visited the city last month, of whom 69,412 were foreigners, 12,293 were Jordanians and 11,097 were students and official guests. Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority Chief Commissioner Mohammad Nawafleh said the increase is the first in April in three years, a sign that tourism in Petra is on the road to recovery.
