RTA’s 83rd open auction fetches Dhs24.5m

The 83rd Open Number Plates Auction held by the Licensing Agency, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), at Intercontinental Festival City Hotel was hugely popular, attracting sores of bidders spanning various walks of the community.

The auction was particularly interesting as it offered an excellent collection of 2, 3, 4 and 5-digit plates for private vehicles; which contributed to raising the total proceeds of the auction to as much as Dhs24.526m.

Commenting on the proceedings, Mohammed Abdul Kareem Nimaat, Director of Vehicles Licensing, RTA Licensing Agency, said, “The auction offered up to 103 distinguished numbers, and about 256 bidders of various ages and segments descended on the auction. The binary plate I–37 topped the auction as it was sold for Dhs2.520m, the three-digit plate O-117 fetched Dhs398000, the four-digit plate L-2222 was exchanged for 860 thousand dirham, and the five-digit plate J-50000 changed hands for Dhs370000.”

“The auction saw positive competitions between bidders in a thrilling & electrifying atmosphere as the numbers offered were both diverse and comprehensive including a variety of numbers which are fancied by number plates collection enthusiasts. The Licensing Agency always seeks to hold open or online auctions that contribute to realizing aspirations for distinguished plates buyers in ways that suits them and at the same time characterized by transparency and clarity in the selection and buying process,” continued Nimaat.
